Huawei to release a device that is “made out of sincerity” on July 30

June had been a busy month for Huawei which not only released the China Telecom edition of the Huawei 3C but also the China Mobile and China Mobile version of the Honor 6 as well as the Huawei X1 customized edition. But it is not yet over as Huawei announced the other day that they will launch another device on July 30.

Huawei has not said much about their new device but did say that it will be a “work made out of sincerity,” which means that this device should have a high cost-performance ratio. Its specifications cannot be too great and the price cannot be too high.

It is still too early to come to conclusions based on what has been released so far but could this new device be the Honor Hol which was recently listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s website. This phone has average specifications. It uses the 1.3GHz MT6582 quad-core processor and sports a 5-inch HD display screen. It has 1GB+4GB memory and its OS is the Android 4.2. It supports TD-SCDMA internet.

Will Huawei sell this device at the 599RMB (96.67 USD) – 699RMB (112.81USD) price range?

This phone scored 44785 in the Antutu test. Is it the Coolpad Dashen F2?

A few days ago, a photo was leaked that showed the Antutu benchmark results of a mysterious new cell phone by Coolpad whose score surpassed the Mi4 with 44785. The phone’s model number appears to be 8xxx (the numbers are blurred). Sources say that this phone is none other than the Coolpad Dashen F2, and that it uses MediaTek’s newest 4G octa-core chipset, the MT6595, and supports dual-SIM card. No release date has been announced but it should come out very soon.

This phone uses the new Cool UI 5.7. The biggest change is that Coolpad removed the Level-2 user interface and that all the apps will be put in a Level-1 interface and they should be easier to manage now.

In addition, another photo was leaked featuring the benchmark test results of new phone. This time, it scored 31867 which is not as great as the last one but is still pretty good.

The other day, a new 4G TD-LTE cell phone from Coolpad received certification from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and was listed in its website. This phone’s model number is “Coolpad 8675-HD” which should be this new phone.

Ainol releases quad-core version of the Ainol AX2, costs 399 RMB (64.41 USD)

The biggest change in the AX2 is its processor. Ainol retained its other specifications. It still has 512RAM and 8GB internal memory space, a .3mp camera which is really nothing more but an ornament. It also sports a 7-inch IPS display screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and runs on a 2500mAh battery. Its operating system is the Android 4.22 and it supports WCDMA/GSM dual-SIM.

After toying with it tonight, I will have to say that I am very impressed with the Xiaomi MiBand. Not only does it cost 79 RMB but it has some pretty impressive high-tech features such as an alarm clock, smart lock, etc. There were a few problems such as the fact that it can only work with the MiPhone. Other than that, I am happy with it.

Review: InFocus M512

Sports a trendy design

As the 4G wave sweeps the world, a few days ago, the cell phone brand, InFocus, launched their first 4G cell phone, the InFocus M512 with up-to-date specifications and an affordable price.

5030801_1111_thumb

The InFocus M512’s specifications

CPU Qualcomm MSM8926 quad-core (1.2GHz)

RAM

1GB
ROM 4GB (supports expansion card)
Display screen 5.0-inch 1280 x 720 IPS display screen
Camera 2mp/8mp
OS Android 4.4.2
SIM Micro SIM
Battery 2500mAh (undetachable)
Internet GSM, WCDMA, FDD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE

The InFocus M512’s outer design is not that different from other phones right now. They also used a black-white panda-like color scheme, a popular design for phones in the 1000 RMB range right now. The M512 has a lively trendy design that should attract many people. The phone’s narrow frame should make it easier for users to carry it in one hand.

5030801_dsc_0819_thumb 5030801_dsc_0820_thumb 5030801_dsc_0821_thumb 5030801_1_thumb 5030801_2_thumb 5030801_3_thumb 5030801_dsc_0834_thumb 5030801_dsc_0836_thumb

There are a few problems with the design. Although you can take off the rear cover and change the SIM and Memory cards, the battery cannot be replaced. The InFocus M512 is powered by a built-in 2500mAh battery which can last for a day and a half.

5-inch LTPS screen and benchmark score

The M512 also sports a 5-inch 720p LTPS display screen. An LTPS screen is known for its high clarity, quick reaction, and visual range.

5030801_dsc_1068_thumb 5030801_dsc_1071_thumb 5030801_dsc_1074_thumb 5030801_dsc_1082_thumb

The InFocus M512 offers very impressive performance and can be seen in any angle. Unfortunately, the screen of the phone I have right now has a warm color temperature. InFocus should try making a few adjustments.

5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-01-16_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-05-00_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-09-59_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-16-00_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-32-47_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-33-13_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-34-31_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-35-30_thumb

The M512 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon MSM8926 quad-core processor with a main frequency of 1.2GHz. This is the first entry-level quad-core chip to be put in a 4G cellphone and now appears in many 4G phones. Because of this chip, the InFocus M512 scored well in its benchmark tests.

InLife UI

The InFocus M512 uses the newest Android OS, the Android 4.4.2 OS, and also comes with the InLife UI. Its glamorous trendy interface should attract many young consumers.

5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-35-41_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-35-47_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-36-04_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-36-14_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-37-34_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-37-40_thumb

The InLife OS sports many practical features such as a smart sensor that can sense the owner making the phone more personal.

Camera and Conclusion

The InFocus M512 sports a 2mp/8mp camera that offers many different functions such as HDR and panorama mode and its interface is amazing making it easier for the owner to take photos.5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-40-33_thumb 5030801_screenshot_2014-07-02-05-40-39_thumb 5030801_img_20140630_150253_thumb 5030801_img_20140630_145455_thumb5030801_img_20140630_150018_thumb 5030801_img_20140630_145851_thumb 5030801_img_20140630_145607_thumb

Overall, the photo quality is great. The M512 captures the realism of the subjects. In addition, white marks can be removed more easily.

5030801_dsc_0840_thumb

How they retain the strengths of their products is something that many manufacturers of 4G phones in the 1000RMB price range must deal with. Overall, everything is balanced in the InFocus M512. As I toyed around with it for the last several days, I did not notice any problems. This is a one of a kind phone, not to mention its affordable price. Many consumers should be happy with this kind of phone.

Teardown: The Xiaomi Mi4 China Unicom Edition

1 2

At yesterday’s launch of the Mi4, Lei Jun boasted the phone’s design. Was he telling the truth?

3

Lei Jun explained that making a round rear cover can allow the Mi4 to use a more powerful battery and have a camera that barely points out.

4

The rear cover was manufactured in a 9-step process using IMD technology。 As a result, it is 0.06mm thin. A lot of cell phones follow this kind of design such as the Honor 6.

5

The Mi4 sports a steel frame but the SIM card holder is made of plastic. The colors are still the same regardless of the material.

6

The plastic rear board is fastened tightly. We can also see a signal overflow outlet which is connected to the gap between the steel frame and the plastic case to maintain a strong signal.

8

There is a sticker on the bolted cover that implys that warranty does not apply after the phone is disassembled. But replacing the rear cover with a wooden won’t won’t influence the warranty.

9

Right now, we are looking at the China Unicom Edition. The 4G edition should go online in September. If the China Mobile 4G edition supports 5 modes, then Xiaomi should make some changes on the 4G Mi4’s antenna design.

11

The camera’s flash bulb is screwed into the phone’s plastic outer shell. A common industry trick is to put the flash bulb on the mother board or on the rear cover. This is the first time I have seen a flash bulb this big.

12

The battery was produced very neatly. It uses a SONY chip customized by Feimaotui. It’s glued to the mid frame too strongly.

13

The power and volume buttons. The texture of the Mi4’s buttons are just as good as the Mi3’s.

14

The Mi4 sports a 13mp rear-facing camera with a 1.8 aperture. It uses the Sony IMX 214 sensor.

15

Xiaomi put the antenna, vibrator, microUSB port, microphone, and LED light in a single soft printed circuit board.

16

The microUSB was made using the 6-pin design.  The standard microUSB port uses a 5-pin design while the Find7, which supports a flash charger, uses the 7-pin design. The Mi4 supports a Qualcomm 9V/1.2A charger.

17

Lei Jun said that the Mi4 features a glove mode thanks to the ATMEL MXT641T chip, which can prevent any interference caused by wet hands.

18

Most of the chips on the mother board are covered by protective cases.

19

The Dongqi 16GB eMMC flash memory card which was manufactured last fourth quarter. It uses 19nm technology and decreases the area by 22%. Along with the Snapdragon 801, it can read and write at the eMMC5.0 level.

20

The Qualcomm WCD9320 audio chip. It has all the codecs necessary for music and phone calls.

21

The Qualcomm WCN3680 WiFi, Blu Ray, FM radio chip. It supports 802.11ac 5GHz WiFi and Blu Ray 4.0 which uses less power.

22

The Qualcomm WTR1625 chip does not support LTE interent but supports GPS.

23

Samsung 3GB RAM chip + Qualcomm MSM8X74AC 2.5GHz quad-core processor chipset package. We have previously said that the Mi4 China Unicom Edition does not support LTE internet.

24

AVAGO ACPM-7600 amplifier.

25

The Qualcomm PM8941 power management IC which supports QuickCharge2.0. According to Qualcomm, this chip can charge 60% of a 3300mAh battery in just 30 minutes.

26

The Qualcomm PM8841 power management chip which can be used together with the PM8941.

27

Infrared transmitter and receiver. Actually infrared was popular in Windows Mobile for a while but became obsolete with the arrival of Blu Ray.

28

The steel was cut using a 1.35mm CNC cutting process.

29

The most important part about how the Mi4’s frame was built is that its made of 304 stainless steel. It was made in a 193 step process.

30

Overall, compared to the iPhone 4s which Lei Jun mentioned as an example, the Mi4’s steel frame is much better.

31

The injected antenna overflow outlets on the bottom and top of the Mi4 are designed much better than the iPhone 4. In addition, the speakers and micr-USB port are placed in a neat arrangement.

Huawei’s New UI Design Disclosed!

Many cell phone manufactures in China would like to make their own UI that stands for their brands, for example, MIUI from Xiaomi, Flyme from Meizu and Emotion UI from Huawei. Compared with current Emotion UI 2.0, Emotion UI 3.0 takes on significant changes, which can be seen from previously exposed information. Earlier on product launch event of Huawei Honor 6, Huawei officially announced that the phone will run on Beta Emotion UI 3.0 firstly; Huawei P7 and other models will run on formal Emotion UI 3.0 which will be released at September.

Recently, Weibo users uploaded two screenshots of the new OS Emotion UI 3.0.  This flattened OS looks rather neat, which seems to be integrated from the other UIs.

What should get people’s attention about the Mlais’ new phone is its display screen. The Mlais M81 sports a 7-inch display screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution. As the photos show, the M81 has narrower sides than the regular 7-inch tablet, and as a result, it should have a good screen ratio.

The phone’s specs are pretty solid. Official reports show that the M81 will use the 1.7GHz MT6592 octa-core chipset. It will have 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory storage. It will also sport a 5mp/13mp dual-camera and run on a 4000mha battery. It supports WCDMA/GSM dual-mode.

Unboxed: The Xiaomi Mi 4

Yesterday, Xiaomi’s latest flagship phone, the Mi 4, was finally launched and its specs are as good as expected. It sports a 5-inch IPS display screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution, runs on the 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 (MSM8247AC) processor, has 3GB RAM, 16GB/64GB ROM, and a 8mp/13mp camera. It is also powered by a 3080mAh battery and its operating system is the Android 4.4-based MIUI V5 OS (The V6 will come out in August). As of now, it costs 1999 RMB (322.33 USD).

During the launch, Lei Jun spent most of the time discussing the materials used to manufacture the Mi 4 and barely said a word about its specs. It looks like Xiaomi had put a lot of effort in creating the right texture for the Mi 4. A lot of improvements were made for its outer design such as increasing its screen ratio. Here are some snapshots of the Mi 4 unboxed.

Faster than the “fastest cell phone on earth?” Coolpad’s new phone scores 44785 in Antutu benchmark

Yesterday, Xiaomi boasted that the just-launched Mi 4 was the “fastest cell phone on earth. However, it only got around 3700 in its benchmark test which led to online debates over whether or not Xiaomi was just full of hot air. Today, we received a snapshot of the Antutu benchmark test results for a mysterious new phone by Coolpad, and it does not look like Xiaomi’s boasts are based on facts.

27d058062d817d3e

The device’s model number is blurred but we can see that it starts with an “8” indicating that this is not a flagship phone but part of a series of products that support China Mobile Internet. As the photo shows, this device scored 44785 points in the Antutu benchmark test, which is higher than many high-end phones out right now, including the recently released Xiaomi Mi 4.

It’s also important to note that the Mi 4 has a width of 67.5mm which is smaller than the Huawei P7, Samsung S4, and HTC M8.

The MIUI OS

The Mi 4 does not have a lot of new features as it is still using the MIUI V5. The new MIUI V6 OS will be introduced around August. As a result, its OS user experience is similar to that of the Mi 3 with a few changes.

Performance test

At the launch event, Lei Jun was unwilling to talk about how the Mi 4 fared in its benchmark tests. Here’s an evaluation of the phone’s performance.

Actually, the Mi 4 scored pretty high in the Antutu benchmark test with 43607 points. Very few phones are able to score this high. This still does not say anything about actual user experience, but we can say that the Mi 4 probably has the most powerful specs out of all the cell phones out right now.

Camera

The Mi 4 sports a 13mp Sony IMX214 camera which has appeared in many new Chinese phones, so it should not be surprising if the Mi 4 has it. It has 6p lens with a F1.8 aperture. Even more interesting is that it comes with a smart flashlight feature. The Mi 4 can also combine two photos that were quickly taken consecutively in a way that can make them look more realistic.

5138101_screenshot_2014-07-22-15-59-30_thumb 5138101_screenshot_2014-07-22-15-59-40_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_160208_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_160114_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_160124_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_171202_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_170848_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_170912_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_171025_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_171104_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_202720_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_203811_thumb 5138101_img_20140722_204411_thumb

As you can see from the samples above, the Xiaomi Mi 4 takes very good photos thanks to the Sony IMX214. Furthermore, the phone’s camera benefits from its big F1.8 aperture as the amount of light going in increases a lot. Since we have now familiarized ourselves with this new sensor, it is no surprise that the Xiaomi 4 can take high-quality photos.

Conclusion:

5138101_dsc06268_thumb

It’s pretty clear that Xiaomi is serious in dispelling the notion that the company does not really care about the outer design of their phones with the release of the Mi 4. Even though the outer design of the Mi 4 is not as pretty as phones that are known to have beautiful designs, this is Xiaomi’s most good-looking phone to date. Its specs are also nothing to make fun of. It’s easy to see how much effort Xiaomi has put on their newest phone’s hardware and appearance. However, Xiaomi’s main competitive strength still lies in their MIUI system. When the Mi 4’s OS is upgraded to the MIUI V6, then it will be a force to be reckoned with.

ASUS to replace Intel chip with MTK chip for upcoming 4G ZenFone

Not wanting to miss the 4G wave that has taken over China, ASUS is also preparing to release many new 4G products, one of them is the ZenFone 4G phone. Unlike the other ZenFones, the ZenFone 4G does not use an Intel chipset but an MTK 4G processor.

ASUS recently released a photo of the upcoming 4G phone. Both the ZenFone 4G and the recently released ASUS T001 use a 1.3GHZ quad-core processor and support TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, and GSM internet.

The new ZenFone 4G must be an entry-level phone. It has 512M RAM, 4GB internal memory storage, and 4.5-inch display screen.

The phone’s design is pretty good. The main camera does not stick out too much and it has a noise-cancelling microphone.

It should not be surprising if ZenFone’s 4G phone will be cheaper than its low-end ZenFone 5 which costs 799 RMB (128.73 USD)

A8 comes in a variety of color schemes. Part from common black and white smooth cases, there are different options of leather rear covers in red, white, golden and so on. However, the pity is that the 5-inch 720p screen is not OGS, which looks rather dark and grey.

As for other specs, Lenovo A8, running on VIBE UI 2.0 OS, carries a MT6592 octa-core processor with 1.7 GHz,2GB RAM+16GB ROM,  5MP front camera and 13MP rear one and 2500Ah battery.
