Benchmark leak reveals a 9-core M4 chip variant in the upcoming iPad Pro. This slightly less powerful version scores around 13,000 points on Geekbench 6’s multi-core test, still offering a 13% improvement over the prior M3 chip and a whopping 35% leap over the M2 in the previous iPad Pro.
The 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro with 256GB and 512GB storage will have the M4 chip
Here’s a breakdown of the multi-core scores:
10-core M4: 14600 points (estimated)
9-core M4: 13,000 points
8-core M3: 11600 points
8-core M2: 9600 points
Interestingly, the 9-core model seems to be running the unreleased iPadOS 17.6, while the 10-core version is on 17.4. The first iPadOS 17.6 public test might be coming soon.

Storage capacity also determines the M4 chip variant. The upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pros with 256GB and 512GB options will get the 9-core M4, while the 1TB and 2TB models pack the stronger 10-core version. All iPads will have 10-core GPU graphics processors.
The official launch of the new iPad Pro is set for Wednesday.
