A tipster on X says Samsung has started work on a 17-inch foldable tablet, following up on a leak from the same account in August. The earlier post shared the tablet’s dimensions but didn’t identify the manufacturer. The new post does, although it doesn’t reveal much else.
According to the August leak, the tablet measures 8 inches when folded and expands to 17 inches when opened. The tipster also said Samsung was developing multiple versions and test units, but didn’t share any further details. The latest post is even shorter, simply stating, “Samsung has already started.”
There’s still no word on a launch date, pricing, or the type of display Samsung plans to use. For now, this remains an unconfirmed rumor from a single source.
What the 8-inch folded size could mean
The idea is not out of character for Samsung. The Galaxy Z TriFold opened to a 10-inch screen. Samsung sold it as a limited run. The last US stock sold out in April. Samsung never pitched it as a mainstream phone. A 17-inch foldable would take that experiment into tablet territory.
Samsung also has fresh sales numbers to point to. Global pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 came in 30 percent above the previous generation. Buyers are clearly paying attention to new foldable shapes, which gives Samsung a reason to try larger screens.

What’s more interesting is that Samsung would not be alone at this size. Apple is reportedly testing a foldable iPad with an 18- to 20-inch screen. The claim comes from a Chinese tipster named Kang, who tied the design to Huawei’s MateBook Fold. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests a launch in 2028 for Apple’s first foldable iPad. Samsung has given no timing for its own tablet, so it is unclear who would get there first.
For now, you have a company name attached to a screen size and nothing more. Nothing in the leak comes from Samsung. If the tipster shares more, we will keep you posted.
