Motorola launched the Edge 40 Neo smartphone in September 2023 (review), both in India and globally, with Android 13 pre-installed. After months of requests from users for an Android 14 update, Motorola has finally responded by beginning the Android 14 rollout for the Edge 40 Neo.

The update comes with the version number U1TM34.107-34-3 and has a total size of 1.4GB. While the brand has not provided an explicit changelog, you can expect the following key changes to be present in the update.

Motorola Android 14 Update Key Features:

  1. Selective media sharing, allowing users to grant access to specific images or videos instead of entire media libraries.
  2. Enhanced transparency regarding apps sharing location data with third parties, along with alerts for any policy changes related to data sharing.
  3. Notifications alerting users if an unknown Bluetooth tracker is detected moving with them.
  4. Integration of Health Connect, providing a centralized platform for storing health data, with customizable controls over data sharing with fitness apps.
  5. Flash notifications for incoming alerts, with customizable settings for camera light, screen light, or both, while respecting Do Not Disturb modes.

It is worth pointing out that users on Reddit have complained that the update removes some key features like Always-on-display and Peek display. The user also points out that the smartphone is also heating up during use and notifications from Messenger and WhatsApp are popping up with a long delay. So caution is advised before installing.

That said, the update is currently rolling out in phases, so users can expect to get a notification in the coming days. If you want to check for the update yourself, you can do so by going over to settings and selecting System Updates. If the update is not showing up there, you can go to About phone and tap on System updates.
