Android 15 Beta 3 may have revealed a new app in development for Google’s Pixel line: Creative Assistant. Discovered by Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority, the app has the package name com.google.android.apps.pixel.creativeassistant, hinting that it could be a Pixel-exclusive feature.

According to the report, Creative Assistant is a new tool that uses AI to generate stickers and possibly emojis, similar to Apple’s recently announced Genmoji.

Although the app itself isn’t available in the new Android Beta, references to it appeared within the Markup app included in the Beta. For those unfamiliar, Markup is an app for screenshot editing and annotations in apps like Google Photos.

The code within the Markup app suggests there will be a “remix” button linked to Creative Assistant, allowing users to create AI-generated stickers and add them to images, according to Mishaal.

There’s also a possibility that the Creative Assistant feature will run on-device rather than in the cloud. The Pixel 9’s expected Tensor G4 chip, along with Google’s efficient AI model Gemini Nano, could potentially handle sticker generation due to their smaller size compared to full images.

The feature sounds similar to Google’s existing AI-powered creativity tools. For example, Gboard’s Emoji Kitchen allows users to combine existing emojis to make a new one while Creative Assistant will use Generative AI features to let you create entirely new emojis.

However, it’s unclear if it can match the scope of Apple’s Genmoji, which lets users create personalized emojis directly within their messaging app.

We will need more information to compare Creative Assistant with Genmoji and understand its accessibility. Will it remain a Pixel exclusive, or will it eventually be available to a wider Android audience? The full picture is still to be revealed.
