Realme is making another leap in the fast-charging technology. In a recent interview with YouTuber TheTechChap, Francis Wong, Head of Marketing for Realme Global, it was revealed that the company is currently testing 300W charging technology.

Realme has always been at the forefront of charging technologies. In 2021, the company introduced their 65W DartCharge tech with GT Master Edition phone which can fully fuel its 4300mAh battery in 33 minutes.

Next year in 2022, Realme released the GT Neo 3 with 150W charging support capable of taking a 4500mAh battery from 0 to 50% in just 5 minutes.

Then its last year’s flagship, the Realme GT Neo 5 (review), debuted even higher 240W charging speeds, allowing users to charge their phones in under 10 minutes fully. Its sequel is now set to be an even faster 300W solution.

Redmi is currently the only brand to show off 300W charging technology for phones. Their demo shows impressive results, with the phone reaching 50% charge in under three minutes and a full charge in just under five minutes.

The details of Realme’s 300W fast charging technology are scarce at the moment. The interview with Wong did not delve into specifics like charging times or any drawbacks. It’s also unclear when or if this technology will be available in a commercially released smartphone.

While faster charging offers undeniable convenience, especially for on-the-go users, there are downsides of its own. High charging speeds can cause phones to overheat which directly affects battery health and longevity.

Additionally, the company needs to ensure there is proper infrastructure to support such high-wattage charging, such as larger and more efficient vapor chamber cooling systems, which may increase the cost of the phone.

It will be interesting to see if Realme can overcome these challenges and bring 300W fast charging to the market. With each iteration, they move closer to eliminating waiting times for phone charging altogether.
