Minecraft fans, get ready for a new adventure set in the blocky world you know and love. Netflix is developing an animated series based on the popular sandbox video game, bringing fresh stories and characters to life.

No release date or timeline is on the horizon yet

Details about the plot are still under wraps, but Netflix promises an original story featuring new characters. The series will be produced using CG animation and is being developed by WildBrain, a Canadian studio with experience bringing beloved shows to Netflix like “Sonic Prime” and “Carmen Sandiego.”

This isn’t the only Minecraft adaptation on the horizon. Mojang, the Swedish developer behind the game, is also working on a movie with Warner Bros. and Legendary. Scheduled for release on April 4, 2025, the film will feature a star-studded cast including Jack Black and Jason Momoa.

The news of the Netflix series comes as Minecraft celebrates its 15th anniversary. Originally released in 2011, the pixellated game where players build worlds out of colorful blocks continues to entertain over 140 million monthly players worldwide.
