With the latest update, OPPO Find X7 Ultra has become one of the phones to feature Google’s Ultra HDR format for Android. Ultra HDR format introduced for Android devices, is set to completely change mobile photography.

Ultra HDR photos are stored in the .jpg format. The main reason for this is to ensure that photos can be properly viewed on displays that do not support HDR, so SDR images will be shown on old devices as well. The HDR image will be shown on HDR supported displays. With Android now having native HDR support, HDR photos no longer need to be rendered in SDR. Bright areas will appear brighter, and shadows will be darker, just like in real life. The Ultra HDR format includes both the SDR image and the HDR Gain Map in its metadata.
