On Sept. 13, Xiaomi had held a launch event in China to unveil the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha concept phone. The Mi 9 Pro 5G went on sale for the first time in China today. The handset was sold out in just 2 minutes on Jingdong Mall.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G was made available for purchase at 10:00 AM on Jingdong Mall today in China. The screenshot of the Mi 9 Pro 5G’s JD listing reveals that the handset was unavailable for purchase in just for 2 minutes. This indicates that the smartphone has received good reception from the audience. After all, with a starting price of 3,699 Yuan (~$518), it is the most affordable 5G smartphone in China. It is 99 Yuan (~$14) cheaper the iQOO Pro 5G smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G comes in four models in the home market. The 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage variants are respectively priced at 3,699 Yuan and 3,799 Yuan (~$532_. The 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage and 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage editions respectively cost 4,099 Yuan (~$574) and 4,299 Yuan (~$602). The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is the upgraded version of the Snapdragon 855 powered Xiaomi Mi 9 flagship phone that was announced in February this year. The Mi 9 Pro 5G is equipped with a full HD+ resolution supporting S-AMOLED display of 6.4 inches. The waterdrop notch display offers a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9 aspect ratio and it comes with an in-screen fingerprint reader.
The faster 2.96GHz Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform powers the Mi 9 Pro 5G with up to 12 GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot on the device but offers users with a massive internal storage of up to 512 GB. The rear side of the phone features a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel triple camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel telephoto lens and a 16-megapixel superwide lens. It has a front-facing camera of 20-megapixel. The front and rear cameras are borrowed from the Xiaomi Mi 9 handset.
The MIUI 11 based Android 9 Pie OS runs on the device. It has a 4,000mAh battery that comes with some exciting features like 40W wired charging, 30W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging.
After the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G, the Mi 9 Pro 5G is the second 5G smartphone from the company. In laboratory tests, the smartphone could reach 2.02Gbps 5G download speeds which is 10 times faster than 4G.
