Today marks a significant milestone for Tesla in China as the company celebrates the 10th anniversary of delivering its first-ever Model S cars to Chinese customers. Since those early days in 2014, Tesla has seen remarkable growth in China’s electric vehicle market.

To commemorate this anniversary, Tesla Asia reposted a celebratory message, highlighting the Model S’s safety achievements and the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing electric vehicle technology.

With over 1.7 million Tesla owners in China alone and a global community exceeding 6 million, Tesla’s impact on the automotive landscape is undeniable. China’s dedication to embracing new energy vehicles (NEVs) is also equally evident, with NEV ownership surpassing the 20 million mark.

Important moments in Tesla’s China journey include delivering Model S keys to the first Chinese owners, including notable figures like Xiaomi founder Lei Jun and Li Auto founder Li Xiang. The opening of the Shanghai Gigafactory in late 2019 also marked a significant shift for Tesla in China. With an annual capacity of over 950,000 vehicles, it is now Tesla’s largest facility globally.

Tesla’s Model S has been celebrated for its safety achievements, earning a maximum 5-star safety rating from both Euro NCAP and U.S. NHTSA in every NHTSA subcategory in 2014. Its active safety system, including features like Autopilot hardware and Lane Departure Warning, underscores Tesla’s commitment to innovation and safety.

In the face of increasing competition, Tesla recently implemented a price reduction across all models, further enhancing its appeal in the Chinese market. Yesterday’s announcement saw prices reduced by 14,000 yuan ($1,930), making Tesla vehicles even more accessible to consumers.
